CAF throws 2017 nations cup open to Nigeria, others

Following the deci­sion of Libya to pull of the hosting of 2017 Nations Cup, the Confederation of African Football, (CAF) has thrown the bidding right to interested coun­tries including Nigeria.
Libya had pulled out of the event due to the raging civil war in the country with the government un­able to guarantee security of would be participating countries.
CAF said it would consider bid from coun­tries with capacity to host, stable government, tight security and the financial muscle to stage the event.
Although Nigeria had yet to formally indicate interest to host the event, given her rich football his­tory she may be prevailed upon to bid to host.

CAF was believed to be mounting pressure on other North African countries to take up the task, but if that fails it may encourage Nigeria to bid.
Although the competi­tion is rotated, this ar­rangement may be altered due to Libya’s decision to pull out.
Morocco is hosting the 2015 edition of Africa’s football big showpiece.
