The coast seems to be clear on the controversy in where and when the
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elective congress will take place, as
the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius
Anyim, has finally endorsed Abuja as venue for the August 26 election.
The decision which was reached after a meeting in his office between
the two warring factions finally laid to rest the misunderstanding
created by the letter purportedly written by the world soccer governing
body, FIFA.
At the meeting, NFF Electoral Committee Chairman, Amoni Biambo, was
said to have justified his choice of Abuja and maintained that he
never stopped anybody from picking forms since it was the duty of the
NFF secretariat to sell forms.
It was, however, resolved that stakeholders who filed letters of
protest over denial of forms should be allowed to participate in the
election.
As a result, Amanze Uchegbulam, Suleiman Kwande, Abel Ehigie and Ewa
from Bayelsa State who filed protests in writing were to be
accommodated to take part in the poll slated.
“It is victory for Nigerian football and it is a clear indication
that we have been vindicated. Our concern is for the election to go
ahead in Abuja according to the electoral guideline. I have told
Nigerians that the election will go ahead even if they burn down the
entire Abuja,” he said.
Let the election go ahead because it will bring down the tension that
the Nigerian football has been subjected to for some months now,” Chief
Mike Umeh, noted.
Meanwhile, as bulk-passing intensifies over the mystery fire that
gutted a wing of the secretariat of NFF on Wednesday, Umeh on Friday,
dragged Aminu Maigari to the FCT Police command.
Umeh did not hide his disgust at the incident as he immediately
accused Maigari and General Secretary, Musa Amadu, of complicity in the
disaster.
Also dragged to the FCT police were Amadu, Christopher Green, Emeka Inyama and Yusuf Ahmed Fresh.
Umeh, who confirmed the development to journalists, also vowed to get
to the roots of the matter for the sake of posterity, stressing that
the inferno occurred barely 48 hours after Maigari was reinstated by a
letter from FIFA.
“They have threatened my life because I did what I know is right.
Nigerians deserve explanation for the fire that occurred on Wednesday
and we cannot all sit back and watch as evil gets root in our football,”
he stated.
