Pandemonium broke out in Ile-Ife, Osun State yesterday as supporters
of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) clashed in the town.
In the melee, it was gathered that some individuals sustained serious injuries and were taken to private hospitals in the town.
Although, the exact number of individuals who sustained injuries
could not be ascertained as at press time, it was learnt that the
victims of the attack were taking to three different hospitals in the
town.
It was alleged that supporters of one of the parties attacked theit
opponents in last saturday’s poll, which Governor Aregbesola won.
But Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state police
command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, denied any clash, saying: “People were
only jubilating, not only in Ile-Ife, but all parts of the state.”
She stated that anxiety in the minds of the people could be responsible for any situation that later ensued in the town.
However, the APC in a statement by its Director of Publicity,
Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, alleged that the PDP went on
rampage against supporters of APC, who were celebrating Aregbesola’s
victory in the governorship election.
