Germany whipped top rated Portugal 4-0 in a match many had earlier
predicted would not be an easy ride for the German team.Germany’s Thomas Mueller scored the first hat-trick of the World Cup during the Group G match with Portugal in Salvador.
The 24-year-old — making his 50th appearance for his country — scored twice in the first-half to put Germany in control and then wrapped up his hat-trick in the second period.
Mueller had also been involved in the key incident of the first-half when he went down holding his face after Portugal’s Pepe made contact.
Pepe then followed-up with a headbutt aimed at the German leading to the Real Madrid man being sent off.
