SAME SEX MARRIAGE

The Diocese of the Niger, Anglican Communion yesterday renewed its war against same sex marriage in any part of the world even as it expressed sadness at the exclusion of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther in
the list of prominent Nigerians honoured by the Federal Government during centenary celebration.
Speaking during a presidential address to mark the 29th Synod of the Diocese at St. Monica’s Anglican Church, Woliwo, Onitsha, the Bishop of the Niger, Rt Rev Owen Nwokolo said the church has risen against any thing that is contrary to the Christian faith especially same sex marriage.
Bishop Nwokolo while admonishing Christians to hold on to their faith said the church was passing through turbulent times, adding that only those who are faithful to the teachings of Christ will be saved.
“The church is aware of the ministry of marriage between man and woman, we shall resist any other teaching that says otherwise, we have risen to challenge any other teaching or doctrine that will be contrary to the original mission and value of marriage in the name of same sex marriage and I urge Christians to say no to such an evil act”, he stated.
On the exclusion of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther among the list of eminent Nigerians honoured during centenary celebration, Bishop Nwokolo called on President Goodluck Jonathan to revisit the list and look for possible means to honour the late cleric whom he described as an ancestor to the church of Christ in Nigeria. “We are not happy that Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther who was the first Bishop in Nigeria was not honoured during the last centenary posthumous award and we call on President Jonathan to find a way in nearest future to correct this great error and give honour to whom honour is due” he said.
On insecurity and ongoing national conference, the cleric commended President Jonathan for initiating a platform for Nigerians to brainstorm on the challenges facing the country and proffer solutions to them while lamenting that Boko Haram has infiltrated all parts of national security.
He called on delegates to the ongoing national conference to produce a document that will only promote true federalism in the country instead of resorting to ethnic and tribal sentiments.
